US President Donald Trump announced a change in the White House chief of staff. Susie Wiles is leaving the position, and her place will be taken by the current Deputy Chief of Staff Steven Miller, one of the closest advisers to the American president.

Trump announced this on November 6 in his social network Truth Social.

Steven Miller will officially assume the role of White House chief of staff on Monday, November 9. Susie Wiles will continue to work on Trump's political team, but now outside the presidential administration.

"I am pleased to announce that Mr. Steven Miller, my current Deputy Chief of Staff and one of my most trusted advisers, will become Chief of Staff beginning Monday, November 9, 2026," — wrote Trump.

The president also thanked Wiles for her work, emphasizing that she successfully performed her duties and made a significant contribution to the administration's work.

According to CBS News, Wiles submitted her resignation letter on the evening of November 5. The network's sources link her departure to the Republican Party's defeat in the congressional midterm elections, which took place on November 3.

In these elections, Democrats gained control of both chambers of Congress, which significantly changed the political situation for the Trump administration. However, the president did not cite the election results as the reason for the personnel decision.

Susie Wiles had headed the White House chief of staff office since the start of Trump's second presidential term in January 2025. Previously, she led his 2024 election campaign and became the first woman in US history to serve as White House chief of staff.

In a statement released on November 6, Wiles confirmed that day would be her last in her current role. She called working in the administration a great honor and emphasized that she will continue to support the president and his political agenda.

Steven Miller has been in Trump's inner circle since the 2016 presidential campaign. In the current administration, he serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Adviser.

Miller is considered one of the main architects of the White House's tough immigration policies, including expanded deportations of undocumented migrants and stronger border controls.

His appointment will be the largest personnel change in Trump's inner circle after the midterm elections. CBS News notes that it is currently unknown whether other deputy chiefs of staff will keep their positions.

It is noteworthy that back in mid-October, Trump publicly denied the possibility of replacing Wiles. He then called reports about preparing personnel changes unreliable and said he was fully satisfied with the work of his chief of staff.
